Doppler Services
Our Doppler work includes carotid, renal, upper-limb, lower-limb and scrotal Doppler, along with other Doppler examinations when clinically indicated.
Carotid Doppler
Carotid Doppler evaluates the arteries in the neck that supply blood to the brain. It can assess plaque, narrowing and blood-flow characteristics and may be advised in patients with vascular risk factors or neurological symptoms.
Renal Doppler
Renal Doppler assesses selected blood vessels supplying the kidneys and may be used in the evaluation of renovascular conditions or specific hypertension-related clinical questions.
Upper & Lower Limb Doppler
Arterial Doppler can assess blood flow to the limbs, while venous Doppler is commonly used to evaluate suspected venous thrombosis and other venous conditions. The exact protocol depends on symptoms and the referring doctor's question.
Scrotal Doppler
Scrotal ultrasound with Doppler evaluates the testes, epididymis and blood flow. It can be useful in patients with acute pain, swelling, suspected inflammation, varicocele, trauma or other scrotal abnormalities.
What to Expect
Doppler ultrasound is non-invasive and usually painless. Gel is applied over the area being examined. The radiologist may obtain measurements of blood-flow velocities and waveforms in selected vessels.
Preparation
Most peripheral and carotid Doppler examinations require little preparation. Some abdominal vascular studies may require fasting. Instructions will be provided according to the requested examination.
