We perform a broad range of sonography examinations including general, abdominal, pelvic, thyroid, breast, scrotal, soft-tissue and musculoskeletal ultrasound. The examination is tailored to the patient's symptoms and the clinical question raised by the referring doctor.
What Can Be Evaluated?
Abdominal ultrasound can assess the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder and other abdominal structures. Pelvic ultrasound is useful for evaluation of the uterus, ovaries, prostate and urinary bladder. Thyroid, breast, scrotal and superficial soft-tissue ultrasound provide focused assessment of these regions. Musculoskeletal ultrasound can evaluate selected tendons, muscles, ligaments, joints, bursae and superficial swellings.
Common Reasons for Sonography
Ultrasound may be advised for abdominal or pelvic pain, urinary symptoms, suspected stones, liver or gallbladder problems, thyroid swelling, breast lump, scrotal pain or swelling, soft-tissue lump, musculoskeletal pain or injury, and for follow-up of previously detected abnormalities.
Preparation
Preparation depends on the examination. Some abdominal studies may require fasting, while pelvic or urinary studies may require a comfortably full bladder. Our clinic team can provide the appropriate instructions when the appointment is booked
What to Expect
A water-based gel is applied to the skin and the radiologist examines the area using an ultrasound transducer. Most examinations are painless. The duration varies depending on the body part and complexity of the study
